Once Human NetEase Launcher Is Concerning Players, Dev Tries To Put Them At Ease
Once Human developer NetEase has addressed concerns about the game’s privacy policy through the NetEase launcher. Its statement on the launcher came after players left reviews on Steam about having ID data taken from them.
NetEase took to Steam to respond with a statement, saying, “Once Human takes our users’ data privacy very seriously. We would only use personal data if we have a legitimate legal basis, such as providing requested services or acting with your expressed consent.”
NetEase continued, “We will only use your data lawfully and reasonably and in accordance with local legal compliance requirements, while practicing the data privacy principles such as data minimization, purpose limitation, and transparency. We appreciate and welcome any and all feedback given by our players to help us improve.”
NetEase said the launcher is just there to provide convenient access to the numerous games that it publishes, just like many other video game companies with their own launchers like Activision Blizzard and Riot Games. Additionally, the NetEase launcher is only required if Once Human is downloaded from the official website, whereas Steam and Epic Games Store players don’t need it.
The game has gotten some additional backlash so far. The ability to create multiple characters was originally set to be released in August, but NetEase launched the functionality early in order to address players being locked onto one server. However, players still can’t delete characters.
Once Human is a free-to-play survival game that launched this week on PC and mobile. Cross-save and cross-progression is available, but there are some limitations to it.
