How To Make A Lantern In Minecraft
Lanterns are great to make when trying to make your base a bit more fancy. Like everything else in Minecraft, creating them will require you to hunt down a handful of items first. But it’s 100 percent worth it because it’s a great way to make your place stand out to show off to all your friends in your Minecraft world.
What are Lanterns, and what do they do
Lanterns don’t do anything fancy, but they do provide a source of light, which is vital for ensuring hostile mobs don’t spawn in dark areas. It’s also worth pointing out that they offer a Light Level of 15, slightly higher than the Torch Light Level of 14.
How to make a lantern in Minecraft
Before you craft a Lantern, the first thing you’ll need is Iron Nuggets. To make these, you’ll need to visit a crafting table and place an Iron Bar in the middle. As soon as you do that, you’ll see an icon letting you know that you made Iron Nuggets. You’ll need at least eight Iron Nuggets to craft a single Lantern.
Now that you have your nuggets, you’ll need to have torches on hand. If you’re making Lanterns, the odds are you aren’t in the starter house phase of the game anymore and probably have a few torches lying around somewhere.
All that’s left for you to do now is visit a crafting table and make them. You can craft a Lantern by placing the Torch in the middle and surround it with the Iron Nuggets, as shown in the picture below.
How to place Lanterns
Placing Lanterns can be a bit tricky because they’re not like Torches in the sense that you can put them on any block. Lanterns can only be placed on the top or bottom of the surface.

In addition, they can only be placed on Solid Blocks or Fences, so you’re pretty limited in how you can put them. That said, with enough creativity, they can blend in with any aesthetic you have for your base. There you go–that’s everything you need to know about Lanterns!
