This Mortal Kombat Game Is Shutting Down After A Year
The team-based RPG Mortal Kombat Onslaught is shutting down this October, its developer has announced. The shutdown takes place on October 21, 2024, which is about a year after the game launched on October 17, 2023.
The game is shutting down in October but is being removed from the App Store and Google Play today, July 22. Additionally, in-game purchases will be disabled on August 23.
“It has been an honor creating this game for our Kommunity,” the developer said.
Mortal Kombat Onslaught was developed by NetherRealm Studios, the same developer behind the main series. No explanation was given for why Onslaught is shutting down. However, it’s not unprecedented for games to open and close in a relatively short period of time.
Recently, the CEO of Warframe developer Digital Extremes called on developers of live-service games to try to stick it out and keep their games going instead of rushing to close them and move on.
Mortal Kombat 1, the twelfth entry in the main series, came out in September 2023. No new games have been announced, but the next movie, Mortal Kombat 2, is set for release in October 2025.
