You Can Now Buy Movie Tickets In A Video Game
Warner Bros. and Roblox are teaming up to allow users to buy tickets to the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice film from inside the game. Users can play a new Roblox experience, Escape the Afterlife, where they van visit a virtual Fandango box office and can buy tickets to the film.
This is the first time Roblox users have been able to buy tickets to a film from within the platform. In a press release, Roblox said this is part of the company’s efforts to increase Roblox’s commerce opportunities. Users need to be at least 13 years old to buy a ticket.
Escape the Afterlife was developed by Sawhorse and allows users to visit the scenes and meet with characters from Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Players need to escape ghouls and rescue characters.
Those who buy a ticket will get an exclusive Beetlejuice-themed avatar.
Warner Bros. marketing boss Cameron Curtis said the aim with this promotion is to try to help Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reach new audiences who may not have seen the first film–and that’s likely a lot of people. After all, the first Beetlejuice film came out in 1988 and Roblox tends to cater to a younger crowd.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice releases in theaters in the US on September 6. Michael Keaton reprises his role as the title character, with Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara also reprising their roles. Jenna Ortega joins the cast as the new character Astrid.
