The Rise Of The Golden Idol Launches Its Next Murder Mystery In November

In 2022, Color Gray Studio and Playstack dropped The Case Of The Golden Idol–a point-and-click investigation game centered around the titular gilded totem–and it quickly became a smash hit. Now, after announcing the follow-up at last year’s The Game Awards, Color Gray and Playstack have confirmed that The Rise Of The Golden Idol will launch on November 12, while a new demo is available on Steam today.

The Rise Of The Golden Idol continues the story of the cursed curio, as it takes place in the 1970s–300 years after the Cloudsley family’s exploits in the first game. The new story follows a relic hunter who has heard stories about the Golden Idol, and they’ve decided to seek out the ancient artifact for themselves.

This new adventure will span 20 separate cases, each with the same clue-gathering, crime-scene-investigating gameplay that made the first game such a success. There will be multiple new enhancements to the formula, however, including moveable windows for quick clue comparisons as well as automatic keyword gathering–no more clicking furiously on every scene.

As for the original game, The Case Of The Golden Idol Redux–an enhanced version of the original story and its downloadable extra chapters The Spider Of Lanka and The Lemurian Vampire–is available today as a free update on all platforms. This updated version included an overhauled UI, a new hint system, and support for up to 12 languages including Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Spanish in both Spain and Latin American versions.

The Rise Of The Golden Idol launches November 12 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.
