Check Out The First iOS Controller With Full USB-C Support

The Lightning Port on iPhones might become a relic of the past, as USB-C is looking like a real possibility for Apple’s eventual 2023 release. That can make it a bit sketchy to pick up a new gamepad for iOS, as anything that relies on a Lightning Port might not be a good pick going forward. However, the newly released RiotPWR Cloud Gaming Controller for iOS combats that issue as the first USB-C iOS controller–and it boasts some other cool functionality that makes it a great choice for all your mobile gaming needs, along with a reasonable $70 price tag. It’s being sold directly from Apple, so you can rest assured it’ll be ready for the next iPhone evolution.

Beyond offering Lightning and USB-C connections, the RiotPWR controller is generally a premium device. It’s designed as a full-sized controller with an 8-way d-Pad, a passthrough charging port, a share button to quickly record your gameplay, and an Audio DAC and headphone jack. It also comes with an optional gaming app (Ludu Mapp) that gives you hundreds of titles supported by the gamepad.

Other notable features include a removable and adjustable clamp for your iPhone and support for popular streaming services like Xbox Game Pass. The company also notes it supports popular titles like Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Apex Legends Mobile–although the latter is shutting down later this year.

All told, the RiotPWR Cloud Gaming Controller seems like a great option for avid mobile gamers. Its price tag is surprisingly reasonable for everything it offers, and the addition of a USB-C cable means you won’t have to worry about upgrading to an iPhone that lacks a Lightning Port. And since the gamepad draws power from your smartphone instead of an internal battery, it’s light and easy to throw in your bag before hitting the road.
