A Dungeons & Dragons Life Sim Is Being Made By Disney Dreamlight Valley Devs
A new Dungeons & Dragons game set in the Forgotten Realms universe is coming from the creators of Disney Dreamlight Valley, publisher Gameloft has announced.
The title will be developed by Dreamlight Valley developer Gameloft Montreal, and is said to feature “unique, cooperative gameplay” that will combine elements of survival games, life-simulation titles like Dreamlight Valley, and action-RPG.
“Players can expect an adventure where the rich lore of this legendary franchise meets real-time survival in a unique campaign of resilience, camaraderie, and danger at nearly every turn,” according to a press release.
No other details, including a release window, have been shared aside from a piece of concept art, which features a trio of adventurers looking out over a valley towards an under construction castle, with a dragon flying in the background. Gameloft Montreal executive producer Lee Kaburis said in a press release the team are all big fans of D&D, something seconded by Gameloft Montreal creative director Marc-Andre Deslongchamps.
“Making friends, both on and off the table, has always been a core Dungeons & Dragons value and it is our goal, as life-long fans, to bring this experience to a different genre renowned for emergent gameplay and shared narrative that can be enjoyed both by newcomers and tabletop masters alike,” Deslongchamps said.
Disney Dreamlight Valley currently sports an average review score of 70 out of 100 on Metacritic. In GameSpot’s Disney Dreamlight Valley review, we praised the game’s life-sim mechanics and the way it incorporates iconic Disney characters, but found its grindy progression system frustrating.
A Dungeons & Dragons life-simulator isn’t the only D&D game in the works looking to break outside of the traditional RPG box the sword-and-sorcery franchise is known for. Starbreeze, the creators of the popular co-op heist shooter Payday, announced in September 2023 it’s working on a new games-as-a-service co-op title set in the D&D universe. That game, codenamed Project Baxter, is currently slated for a 2026 release.
