Diablo Immortal’s New Tempest Class Is A Water-Bending Warrior-Priest

Diablo Immortal will receive its second new class since launch on May 23, and it’s another brand-new addition to the franchise–the Tempest.

Described by Blizzard as warrior-priests hailing from the Cold Isles, a region to the north of Sanctuary’s western continent, Tempests are chosen among the pure of heart and trained in the art of “blade-dancing, wavewalking, and seafaring.” Using the power of the storm itself, Tempest’s dual wield swords and daggers that can move and morph like water to both maneuver around the battlefield and damage enemies.

A new 2.5D cinematic trailer gives fans their first look at the class, and while it’s mostly an animated cutscene, there is a snippet of gameplay footage at the end. It shows the Tempest using their weapon to bring the might of a stormy sea onto their foes, lashing enemies with water whips, pulling them together in whirlpools, and dashing through them as if they were water.

The class will be added as part of a free update to Diablo Immortal, along with a new quest specifically for the Tempest. Thanks to Diablo Immortal’s class-change feature, players will be able to convert one of their existing characters into the new Tempest class and take it for a spin right from the jump.

Tempest is the second new class addition to Diablo Immortal. Last year, Blizzard introduced the Blood Knight, a vampiric class that used blood as both a resource and a weapon. Both classes are new additions to the larger Diablo lore.

As for what’s next for Diablo Immortal, Blizzard has previously detailed a yearlong content roadmap for the free-to-play mobile ARPG it’s calling “The Year of Unmaking,” one that will culminate in the return of Diablo himself. The game’s previous update introduced a new form of equipment, a new endgame activity in the form of Terror Rifts, and a new quest diving into the past of fan-favorite character Deckard Cain.

Meanwhile, Diablo 4 will receive a major itemization revamp as part of its Season 4 Loot Reborn update on May 14. The update will see players rewarded with fewer, but more meaningful and powerful drops, as well as introduce two new item progression systems that will give players more control over fine-tuning their items in the endgame. Diablo 4’s first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, is slated to release in late 2024.
