Overwatch Mobile Is (Or Was) In Development – Report

Blizzard Entertainment was reportedly toiling away on a mobile version of Overwatch in the past, though it’s unknown whether the project is still in active development. A new book about the acclaimed developer–titled Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment–drops the little nugget of info about the hero-shooter series.

In the book, author Jason Schreier references an Overwatch mobile project when talking about Walter Kong. Here is the passage from Play Nice: “Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2 as well as new projects, like a mobile version of the franchise.”

There has been no official comment on a mobile edition of the Overwatch franchise. Overwatch 2 launched last year as a free-to-play game for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The title offers cross-platform play, so it’s possible a mobile project would be the same experience but for smartphones and tablets, or it could be something completely different, if it still exists at all.
